TTYL: Trips & Travel You’ll Love | Harpers Ferry, West Virginia

Looking for a day trip

about 90 miles from DC.

Located at the cornerstone of

Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia.

Welcome to Harpers Ferry,

ladies and gentlemen.

Begin by parking in

As all National Parks, be prepared to pay

There’s parking downtown adjacent,

by the visitor center, and

near the park entrance.

surround the downtown.

Explore where the ammunition was stored.

Observe the Pulp Factory ruins.

Inquire about John Brown.

Already have your water and snacks?

Checked on the current conditions?

Ready to hike?

Continue towards the train tunnel.

Stop and take a flick at the river.

Leave a love lock as you cross the bridge

and head towards the paths

We hiked Maryland Heights.

The view of downtown Harpers Ferry,

and the meeting of the Potomac River

and Shenandoah River is breathtaking.

Remember, that's the end goal!

Come down the iron stairs and turn left.

Walk parallel to the road and the upstream river.

Climb a few steps to cross the small wooden footbridge.

Look both ways before you cross.

Get ready for this moderate hike!

That was just the warm up.

Follow the footsteps on the dirt path

from previous explorers.

This mainly uphill trail will include historical stopping points.

It was interesting to know

THEY shot cannons from THIS location.

Be sure to stretch and

hydrate along the way.

Remember you can do HARD things!

When you begin to descend,

know you’re almost there.

Take in the beauty.

Breath in the fresh air.

Listen to the birds flying high.

Capture the beauty.

Relax a minute.

Have a picnic or a snack break.

Remember how we ended by descending?

That means we begin by ascending.

You can do HARD things!

Take the long way around,

not as steep.

Or take the shortcut,

incline level 10.

After 15 to 20 minutes,

the rest is downhill.

In no time, you’ll be back where you started.

Most likely, hungry!

Considering stopping in town

for a local bite.

Expect REGULAR bar food.

Wings. Burger. Fried Seafood. Sandwich.

I ordered the loaded fries to share with the table.

Fresh cut fries were topped with cheese and bacon

with a side of ranch.

The club sandwich with a side caesar salad

 was my main meal.

The prices matched the service and quality.

Digest your meal with a leisurely walk.

Visit the local shops around the block.

Handmade jewelry. Glass. Figurines.

Hats. Hoodies. Shirts. Magnets.

Coffee. Beer. Honey. Dessert.

That caramel apple cake was FIRE!

Treasures and mementos trigger the

spirit of the experience.

Before heading home,

Right around the way.

You can snap your

“Welcome to West Virginia” photo.

Buckle up and travel safe!

Check back next week to see the next TTYL near Washington, D.C.
