THRIVINGonly: Hiking

Interested in a low elevation hike through the foliage of Puerto Rico which ends at the beach? Visit Playa Escondida – Hidden Beach in Farajado, Puerto Rico.

Begin by paying for parking in a caged lot for 7 Mare -Seven Seas. Your hike will begin on a sandy path by the beach. There is space where family and friends can gather tents, parked cars, and shelters. This part of the beach is more crowded. When facing the water, continue left towards the path.

Be prepared to walk for about 25 minutes. Closed toes shoes with a sole are ideal for the terrain. The path has been carved out by the many previous travelers.

Engage with all your senses. Observe the natural foliage. Snake Plants. Vines. Colorful flowers. Listen to the creatures. Birds chirping. Iguanas scurrying. Frogs croaking. Waves crashing. Inhale through your nose, exhale through the mouth. Observe out of curiosity, not out of a place of fear.

Taking in the fresh air.

Hold it.

Release.

As you follow the path, the beach will begin to peak through the trees. Could you stop? Yes, but keep going! This part of the hike will seem tiring since it is sandy crossing the oceanfront. When you cross the beachfront creek, you’ve made it. A small waterway runs off into the ocean. Find a nearby coconut tree to provide shade from the sun and set up your space.

When I prepare for the beach, there are certain items I must have. When traveling abroad, some items are left behind. My beach essentials include:

ree

  • Speaker

  • Portable Charger

  • Chair

  • 2 Towels

  • Snacks and Beverages

  • Sanitizer

  • Hat and Shirt

The water is calm, blue, and warm. Take a seat, enjoy your beverage, and rock with the waves. Build connection with those you love while connecting with nature. Allowing the powers of the ocean to cleanse and detoxify your soul. Allow music to play in the background. Disconnect from the world. Be present for yourself. Be present for those in your presence.

As your lose track of time, remember you will have a 25- minute hike back to your car. Save some energy to carry your beach essentials back.

Hike /hīk/: (n.) a long walk especially for pleasure or exercise. Not every hike has to include a mountains or an incline. Get out and move!
